Tim Walker - President/Owner
Tim Walker - President/Owner

Like many of the youth in our groups, Tim was 15 when he went on his first ski trip. Most of his first day was spent face down in the snow...and he loved it! So much so, he became a professional ski instructor while earning a degree from Mars Hill College (now University). He went on to become a Ski School Director, and then Group Sales Director at several mountain resorts. He's honored to have introduced winter sports to literally thousands of people, and still gets excited when teaching a new skier.

Growing up on Lake Murray in SC gave Tim a close connection to water. So when he's not skiing, you'll likely find him "on the water"! He also learned about growing food from a grandfather who earned his living as a farmer (If you want to see Tim start scratching his arms, just ask him about cutting acres of okra). Our mission program, Feed My People, has allowed him to use the knowledge passed on by his grandfather to help grow
food for hungry children here in the mountains

In 1991, Tim, along with his wife, Karen, took over the reins at CTI, from founder Jack Land. Oh, and his favorite ski run and favorite whitewater river are... whichever one he's on now!

Karen Walker - Vice President/Owner
Karen Walker - Vice President/Owner

Karen was a teenager when her father, Jack Land, opened Highland Tours in 1970. But that didn't stop her from working part time as a guide for local tours. Soon, Jack incorporated as Carolina Tours, Inc, adding outbound travel for groups in the process.

Karen served as CTI's Tour Director for many years, planning itineraries and guiding groups to a variety of destinations across North America. Her knowledge and expertise drew the attention of other tour operators on a national level, leading her to speak at seminars during the annual conventions of both the National Tour Association and the American Bus Association.

Karen also graduated from Mars Hill University with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. She and Tim reside in Weaverville (just north of Asheville) with a chocolate lab named "Brownie." They have 3 grown children - Jackie, Katie, & Will; 1 son-in-law - Rob; and 2 granddaughters - Evie & Izzie.

Valerie Taylor - Vice President, Operations
Valerie Taylor - Vice President, Operations

Valerie began her career with CTI in 1995 as a Tour Coordinator. Prior to CTI, she learned to handle travel arrangements and coordinate various special events for businesses and educational institutions. During the last 20 years, she's held a variety of positions at the company, primarily focused on operations. In 2005 she was promoted to Vice President of Operations for CTI. In addition to her management responsibilities, she is also still directly involved in coordinating trips to many of the destinations that CTI represents.

Born and raised in Alabama, she and her family have also lived in other parts of North Carolina, Georgia and Texas.  Valerie and her husband, Steve, enjoy SEC football (Roll Tide) and family time with their children and grandchildren.
